Climate Change in a Complex Society

Man-made climate change and its global impacts are a challenge for the 21st century. The systems governing the world's climate are physically complex, and informing others about climate change and its mitigation or the foreseeable adaptations it will cause requires a fundamental knowledge of system dynamics. Skilled young professionals with up-to-date knowledge on these aspects are in high demand by both public and private enterprises.

The objectives of the CLIMAST project are to create a network of higher education institutions involved in climate sciences and to develop and present studies and projects to address the need for expert teaching. The network will focus its efforts on the provision of high-level knowledge training in climate science as well as including aspects of social science in the context of the Mediterranean area. The CLIMAST courses will help to develop its students into engaged and informed professionals who are able to take part fully in climate negotiations and to develop meaningful and considered ways to face this, perhaps the most pressing issue of our modern society.

Course Objectives

- To develop students' soft skills in climate science communication

- To improve students' scientific background regarding climate variability
